seveneves: A novel

If you moon exploded right now, and physicists said we have a certain amount of time before all the chunks rain down on earth and kill us all…. what would you do? This book explores that reality with our current technology. Political decisions would be forced, international collaboration would occur at an unprecedented level….. think about all the rules that would change overnight.

This book was recommended to me on Twitter, and honestly I didn’t know what to expect. It’s very long, but FANTASTIC. There are several technical issues in the book that set my mind on fire, including whip , orbital mechanics, resource utilization, and even the difficulties of storing digital data. Out of everything I’ve listened to, my mind often wonders back to this book because it makes me think about things in the future more than any other experience I’ve had as an adult.

Warning: There’s a very clear break-point in the book and I’ve heard several people say that they don’t enjoy the second part… but I’m firmly in the camp that really liked this part. I don’t want to explain too much about it so I don’t give it away.
